Barron, Chris

Director/playwright born January 24, 1962, in Belleville, Ontario.

He grew up in the countryside of Corbyville. Many of his childhood memories are the impetus of his plays which include The Show Must Go On, Every Inch A Diva (about legendary Montreal star of the Theatre National Alys Robi), Habits of the Heart (presented at the Vancouver Fringe Festival by the Vancouver Historical Performance Society, 2001), Scrubbers (adapted from Cenarth Fox) and Johnny Canuck: A Canadian Remembers.

As a director he has helmed AR Gurney's Love Letters (Sands Best Western Theatre, Vancouver), Daniel MacIvor's 2-2 Tango (Waterfront Theatre, Vancouver), Scrubbers, A Fall From Grace (Pumphouse Theatre, Calgary), Johnny Canuck (Lougheed House, Calgary) and Wendy Lill's The Fighting Days among others. He has also produced works, including Hosanna (Arena Theatre, Calgary) and Clever As Paint: The Rossettis in Love by Kim Morrissey (Arts Centre, Calgary).

He was also the founding artistic director for Calgary's Downright Canadian Theatre Company.

Chris Barron has also worked in television and radio. He lives in Montreal.
