Blakey, Brian

Translator of French plays, born in 1932 in Yorkshire, England, died in Burlington in 1979. Brian Blakey was educated in Northern England, and received B.A.(Hons), M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in French Studies from the University of Manchester. He came to Canada in 1969 and was Professor of French at McMaster University.

Several of his Feydeau farce translation/adaptations have been professionally performed, including A Stitch in Time (Tailleur pour Dames) at the National Arts Centre, and at the Nuffield Theatre in Lancaster, UK; and A Bee in Her Bonnet (La Puce à l'Oreille) at the Manitoba Theatre Centre.

He was married to Dorothy Lees-Blakey.
