Finley, David

Award-winning playwright, television screenwriter and story editor, and writer of short fiction, based in Toronto Ontario. He attended the University of Toronto and the University of Western Ontario.

He is the writer/director/producer of the short film, My Last Confession, which has screened at 40 International Film Festivals in 12 countries and it has won several awards and nominations.

David Finley has also written, directed and produced Donny's Day, a one-act comedy that enjoyed a successful run at the Toronto Fringe Festival July 1 - 12, 2009. Currently he has a youth-oriented half-hour sci-fi TV comedy in development with Decode Entertainment.

In 1996, he was a Gemini Award Nominee for Best Writing in a Children’s or Youth Program. In 2003 he received an Award of Excellence from The Alliance for Children and Television. He won the 2005 Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Musical for Aladdin, staged at the Elgin Theatre in Toronto. In November and December 2006, a remounting of Aladdin was taken on a seven-city Canadian tour. The Toronto stop was filmed for a 90-minute CBC Television Special which aired December 2007. David was also nominated for the 2006 Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Musical for Snow White and the Group of Seven.
