Frankish, Leslie

Ontario -based designer probably best known for her eleven-season association with the Shaw Festival . She is a native of Edmonton, Alberta .

For the Shaw she has designed Pygmalion, The Silver King, Good News, The Simpleton of the Unexpected Isles, The Lady's Not For Burning, The Children's Hour, Mrs. Warren's Profession, Sherlock Holmes, Lulu and, more recently (1999) set and costumes for All My Sons.

She has also designed for Citadel , National Arts Centre and Canadian Stage . She won a Dora Mavor Moore Award for her costume design for this last's Into the Woods. She also designed the English-language premiere of Les Feluettes ( Theatre Passe Muraille ) and, more recently (January 2000) the Canadian Stage/ Grand Theatre, London production of Jason Sherman 's Patience, the Citadel Production of Little Shop of Horrors (March, 2000) and the National Arts Centre's Hard Times.

She has said of the working process, "I think the strength of a set is to not only create a physical environment, but an emotional environment. That's the part I love, to be able to say something with solid matter."
