Union des Artistes

Francophone union representing stage, television, radio and film actors.

The organization's head office is in Montreal, Quebec. In 1937 a group of singers decided to form a union, La Fédération des artistes de la radio, which was associated with the American Federation of Radio Artists until 1942 when it became the Union des Artistes lyriques et dramatiques. In 1952 it took the name Union des Artistes. In 1958 it supported the directors’ strike at Radio-Canada. Although the union is active in politics and lobbies on behalf of artists on all levels, it considers itself non-partisan.

The members share various benefits including a pension fund, insurance fund, maternity and vacation funds.

Union des Artistes is a member of the la Fédération internationale des acteurs (FIA) http://www.fia-actors.com/fr/.

Presidents have included: Mia Riddez, Jean Duceppe, Robert Rivard, Serge Turgeon and Pierre Curzi.
