Béchard, Carl

Carl Béchard

Quebec-based actor and director, born July 27, 1953. Carl Béchard studied at the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Montréal (1976) before appearing, regularly, in Denis Marleau's Théâtre Ubu productions (notably Merz Opéra and as Mère Ubu in Ubu Cycle and Les Ubs).

Béchard is renowned for his acclaimed performances in Feydeau, such as: Tailleur pour dames and Un fil à la patte (both at Théâtre du Rideau Vert); and Monsieur Chasse (1999) and Les Jumeaux Vénitiens/The Venetian Twins (2000, both at Juste Pour Rire/Just for Laughs).

More recently, he has performed in: Molière, Shakespeare et moi (Théâtre du Rideau Vert 2017); La Cantatrice chauve (Théâtre du Rideau Vert 2017); Le Tour du monde en 80 jours (Théâtre Tout À Trac 2015-17); Cléante in Le Tartuffe (Théâtre du Nouveau Monde 2015).

He also has performed extensively in film, and regularly on television.

Carl Béchard's stage performance are marked by an almost balletic physicality, fully exploiting comic moments.
