Brière, Benoit

Quebec-based actor born June 20, 1965, who since graduating from the National Theatre School of Canada in 1991 has become a star of comic theatre.

He has played lead roles in Le Misanthrope (1991), La Locandiera (1993), La Mégère apprivoisée/The Taming of the Shrew (1994) and Dom Juan (2000) at Théâtre du Nouveau Monde/TNM, Nef des fous (1991) at Nouvelle Compagnie Théâtrale, Nez à nez (which he co-created with Stéphane Jacques, 1992), Aux hommes de bonne volonté (1993) at Théâtre de Quat'Sous, and the title role in the Just For Laughs mega-production of Le Bourgeois gentilhomme directed by Denise Filiatrault (1995). He has also played the Barber in Beaumarchais's Le Barbier de Seville at the TNM, directed by René Richard Cyr (March, 1999), and the title character in Gratien Gélinas's Bousille et les justes at Théâtre du Rideau Vert, directed by Micheline Lanctôt (November, 1999).

Benoit Brière has also had a solid film and television career. He is particularly popular in Quebec for a series of ads he did for Bell Canada, in which he plays several characters of both sexes, all ages, shapes and sizes. His comic timing is exceptional.
