Robertson, Hamish

Hamish Robertson

Actor and manager born in Glasgow, Scotland, February 17, 1943. Hamish Robertson immigrated to Canada in 1953, lived in Toronto, Ontario, (performing in school plays) and studied at Queen's University, in Kingston (1962-66).

He acted with the Sudbury Little Theatre before moving back to Toronto. He appeared with the Touring Players Foundation and at Theatre 21 (Port Carling) in productions of Never Too Late (1967) and Ten Little Indians (1967) (among others).

He has also appeared at Citadel Theatre (The Odd Couple; Philadelphia, Here I Come; Irma La Douce, all in 1968). In 1969-70 he acted extensively at Kawartha Summer Theatre, before appearing at Theatre New Brunswick (A Man For All Seasons, 1971) and at Stratford Festival (An Italian Straw Hat and There's One in Every Marriage, which subsequently toured to Broadway, 1971). He has also worked at Young People's Theatre (The Dandylion, 1973), Theatre Aquarius (Hadrian VII, Crumpets and Tea, both in 1973); and Theatre Calgary (How The Other Half Loves, 1974), among others. He has also performed extensively in television, radio, and film.

Robertson has worked at the Canada Council as music officer, at Niagara Symphony, as company manager for the National Ballet of Canada, and for the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. He chaired Canadian Actor's Equity and worked with a number of charities both as volunteer and on staff (Chedoke-McMaster Children's Hospital Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Cancer Assistance Program, Rotary Club, Canadian Centre for Philanthropy among others).
