Tyley Ross

Actor and singer, born in Ottawa, Ontario in 1971, who burst onto the scene with his performance in the lead role of the Edwin Mirvish production of the mega-musical Tommy by The Who.

Tyley Ross studied at Canterbury High School, an arts school, in Ottawa. He worked in amateur theatre in Ottawa before leaving for Toronto where he struggled for a living singing on Yonge Street before he was approached by an agent who liked his singing at a party. This led to seven months with the production Forever Plaid, nine months with Miss Saigon (in which he later performed on Broadway) and seven auditions to land the lead in Tommy (for which he won a Dora Mavor Moore Award).

Ross was cast in the lead role in the 1999 Stratford Festival production of West Side Story and released an album.

He has also performed in concerts across Canada and the US. In 2004 Ross co-founded the genre-defying East Village Opera Company and was the group’s male lead singer for six years.
