Duo pour voix obstinées

Psychological drama by Maryse Pelletier, premiered at Théâtre d'Aujourd'hui, January 17, 1985, winner of the Governor General’s Award and translated by Louis Ringuet as Duo for Obstinate Voices.

A man in his thirties and a woman in her twenties are incapable of love without also destroying each other.

The relationship lasts five years (we see it in scenes throughout); enough time for the woman to find her independence and identity and for the man to conclude that he will never understand his lover's many contradictions.

The work was revived in the final season of the Théâtre Populaire du Québec (1995-96).
