Actor/director born in St. John's, Newfoundland , in 1952, well known for her work with the troupe Codco . She had a difficult childhood, her parents were both alcoholics (a problem she, herself, fought), and she attended a strict convent school.

She was studying theatre in Toronto (Ryerson) but dropped out to appear with CBC TV and then with a Newfoundland troupe which mounted, at Theatre Passe Muraille 's, Cod on a Stick (Codco's first outing). With Codco she performed all over the country and on CBC television (when the company disbanded she was soon placed in another television show of her own creation, This Hour Has 22 Minutes).

She has directed over a dozen plays including the Centaur Theatre production of Ann-Marie Macdonald Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) written or co-written several others (including Hockey Wives, Factory Theatre , 1988) and continues to act in theatre (including the well-received 1993 production of A Moon for the Misbegotten at the Grand Theatre, London.)

As an actor Ms Walsh has a magnificent, bombastic presence and a keen eye for character. As a director her work is snappy, intelligent and assured.

She has a son, Jesse.
