Husky-voiced Quebec actor usually cast in working class roles.

Sophie Clément was born September 18, 1943 in Montreal, and graduated from the National Theatre School of Canada in 1965. She has worked in theatre, as actor and director, and extensively on television and in film.

Her impressive list of theatre credits includes leads in Je suis à toi/I Am Yours (by Judith Thompson at Théâtre la Licorne); Albertine, en cinq temps (the sensational revival of Michel Tremblay's play directed by Martine Beaulne at Espace Go, 1997); Eddy (by Jean-Marc Dalpé at Nouvelle Compagnie Théâtrale / Théâtre Denise-Pelletier); the revival of Marcel Dubé's Les Beaux Dimanches; Euripides' Médée/Medea; Réjean Ducharme's Ines Pérée et Inat Tendu and Ha! Ha!; Molière's L'Avare/The Miser and Tartuffe; and Goldoni's Les deux jumeaux vénitiens/The Venetian Twins all at Théâtre du Nouveau Monde.

In 1996 she participated in the women's collective creation Coeur léger, Coeur Lourd at Théâtre la Licorne. In February, 2000, she won a Masque Award for her performance in Les Belles Ratoureuses.

Among her many film credits are two works by Michel Tremblay and André Brassard: Françoise Durocher, waitress and Il était une fois dans l'est.
