Troupe Comedienne

The first francophone company to play in Quebec after the Conquest, founded in 1765 by Pierre Chartier. Members of the troupe were brought in from Holland, Italy, Great Britain and Switzerland.

They performed a harlequin version of the Don Juan story, as well as works from the Comédie-Italienne, adapted by two Belgian Walloons in order to circumvent Governor James Murray's prohibition against plays and players from France.
