Playwright, director and actor Robert Ainsworth was born in Birmingham England, and moved to Peterborough, Ontario in 1980.

He has written and directed several plays for the Peterborough Theatre Guild and Trinity Players, including Frozen Dreams; Labour Pains; Expecting the Worst; Slainte the musical (music by Paul Crough); Pip, a musical based on Dickens’ Great Expectations (1995); and A Life Before (2017).

Sláinte tells the story of an Irish family's struggle to cope with the relocation to New Brunswick in 1848 because of the potato famine. The O’Malley’s faith is tested by the friendship and love left behind and the challenges they must endure.

Robert Ainsworth’s theatre awards include: the Peterborough Real Estate Board Award of Merit for Contributions to Peterborough Theatre; the City Of Peterborough Award Of Merit for Frozen Deams and its fundraising for the homeless; the Best Production and Director Award at the Eastern Ontario Drama League One Act Festival for Visitor from Forest Hills; and at the Peterborough New Play One Act Festival for Be Kind Rewind. In 2012, he was awarded the EODL Festival Best Production and Best Director Awards, and the Theatre Ontario Festival Best Production Award, both for The Mouse House.

He is a member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada, and an active member of the Peterborough Theatre Guild and St James Players.

He is married with two children, and has worked as a local real estate agent for Century 21 United for over 30 years.
