Waxman, Al
Character actor, born in 1935, perhaps best known for his television performances (King of Kensington, Cagney and Lacey). He died in Toronto, January 17, 2001.
Mr. Waxman made his Stratford Festival début in 1997 as Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman. Prior to this well-received event, he had participated in over 1000 television, radio, film or theatre productions as actor or director.
He performed in the Neil Simon work, Proposals, at Manitoba Theatre Centre and the Royal Alexandra Theatre (1999) and directed the Stratford production of The Diary of Anne Frank (2000). He was slated to appear as Shylock in the 2001 production, at Stratford, of The Merchant of Venice.
In 1997, he was inducted into the Order of Canada. He also served as the chairman of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.
