NotaBle Acts Theatre Festival

NotaBle Acts is a theatre company dedicated to the development and production of new plays by aspiring and established New Brunswick dramatists. Now operating year-round, since 2002 it has held an annual summer theatre festival in Fredericton New Brunswick. The festival includes mainstage productions, site-specific performances, a new play competition, short lunchtime works performed in Barracks Square, and new play readings.

In 2012, sixteen plays were staged in eight different venues across the city, including a production of The Cave Painter by Don Hannah, starring Jenny Munday in the Black Box Theatre at St. Thomas University. In 2011, the mainstage play was Alden by Rick Merrill (dir. Mary Vingoe) about the New Brunswick poet and playwright Alden Nowlen.

In July 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, when theatre spaces were closed, the festival operated through street performances, and live-streamed staged readings, including Bluebirds by Vern Thiessen.

Since its inception, NotaBle Acts has profiled 200 new scripts, ranging from ten minutes to full length, by over 100 emerging and established New Brunswick playwrights.
