Quebec playwright, based in Montreal, born in 1949. After receiving his BA from the Séminaire de Saint-Hyacinthe in 1979 and an MA in French education from the University of Montreal in 1976, Robert Claing taught literature at Collège Ahuntsic.

From 1976-79 he was a member of the Théâtre Expérimental de Montréal. He was then a co-founder and animator at Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental and Espace Libre until 1988. In 1988-89 he was on the administrative council of the Centre des auteurs dramatiques and served as its treasurer. For the 1989-90 and 1993-94 seasons he was writer-in-residence for Omnibus.

Plays include: Collette et Perusse (Théâtre de Quat'Sous, 1975), Radisson (National Arts Centre, 1978), Marée Basse (Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental, 1984), La femme d'intérieur (Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental, 1988), and Caravansérail (Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui 2009).
