Allen, Michelle

Playwright, translator, television and film script writer, born in 1954, Michelle Allen graduated from the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Montréal in 1979.

Her play, Morgane received the Grand Prix Litéraire de Montréal in 1994. She has also twice been a finalist for the Governor General’s Award for La Passion de Juliette (1982) Théâtre du Nouveau Monde; and Morgane (1993).

She has written extensively for television and film, including the script for La Ligne brisée, produced in 2008. Her television series, Fugueuse about an adolescent descent into hell, enjoyed popular success in 2018.

As translator she has tackled Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice (directed by Daniel Roussel); A Midsummer Night's Dream (directed by Robert Lepage); and works by Edward Bond, John Murrell, and Maureen Hunter.
