Thomson, Graeme S.

Ontario-based lighting and set designer, Graeme S.Thomson began his career as a carpenter at Centaur Theatre in 1974. Since then, he has designed over 150 productions - sets and/or lighting - across Canada.

For director, Richard Rose, Thomson has designed over twenty productions, including Glenn, The Taming of the Shrew, Inexpressible Island, Arcadia, Transit of Venus, Not Wanted on the Voyage, Summer of the Aliens and Don Giovanni. More recently, during Rose's tenure as Artistic Director of Tarragon Theatre, Thomson designed set and lighting for Leo (2007), Scorched (2008) and Rocking the Cradle (2009); and lighting for No Great Mischief (2012), The Realistic Jones (2016), and Mustard (2016).

For Soulpepper Theatre Company, Thomson designed lighting for Farther West (2013) and True West (2014). He has also designed at Necessary Angel, Theatre Aquarius, Mirvish Productions (see Ed Mirvish and David Mirvish), Great Canadian Theatre Company,Factory Theatre, Volcano Theatre, and Theatre Calgary among many others.

Joel Greenberg, of Aisle Say, called his lighting for the summer, 2000, Stratford Festival production of Titus Andronicus, "...masterful."

He has won two Dora Mavor Moore Awards for lighting Seven Lears (Necessary Angel, 1996) and Remnants by Jason Sherman (Tarragon, 2004).

Thomson is a member of the Associated Designers of Canada. He has four children.
